There are two sets of coaching requirements, and the deadlines are different for each:
All Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches must complete the Knights HC coach registration every season.
| Requirement | Applies To | Validity | Information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coach Registration | All coaches | Yearly | Register to Coach |
| Police Check Vulnerable Sector | All coaches | 3 seasons | PIC Instructions. There is no charge when the Knights HC process is followed. |
| The Shift Forward — Coach | All coaches | 4 seasons | Register for The Shift Forward. The Coach course is different from The Shift Forward — Parent. |
| HC Safety Program — Level 1 | All coaches | 3 seasons | Register for HCSP. Hockey Alberta course number: 2026000428. |
| Connect Sport — Mental Health | U13–U18 coaches | As required | Visit Connect Sport. Select Log In to create an account and enter code HC2025 at the payment screen. |
Existing Respect in Sport — Activity Leader certifications will continue to be recognized until their expiry date. When renewal is required, coaches must complete The Shift Forward — Coach.
Returning coaches should review their Hockey Canada Registry record for expired or outstanding qualifications.
KHC encourages Assistant Coaches to obtain the same division-specific qualifications as the Head Coach. This helps keep the team properly certified when the Head Coach is unavailable because of illness, suspension or other circumstances.
An HCR number is required to register for clinics and view coaching qualifications. Coaches who already have an HCR account and linked profile may proceed directly to clinic registration.
